Nightshift Mar-May Quality Control Floater;

• 2 nights as Class 2 QC, 2 nights as RA, 1 night as weights and counts monitor and 1 night in production as a grader, packer, trey prep or Invision sampler.

Dayshift May-Jul Invision sampler;

As Invasion sampler my job was to sample fruit on the grading tables, 50 fruit samples after graders and B-Belt fruit samples. Relaying information back to Invasion operator, Grading Team Leader, Line Quality Supervisor or Manager. Depending on the amount of staff usually a sample every 3-5mins. Entering all information into an excel spreadsheet which is shared with Invision Operator and Site Quality Manager.

• To retain my position I go through 3 weekly proficiency checks conducted by Line Quality Supervisor or Manager and a weekly 50 fruit test to verify I understand my fruit quality standards. Also 1 weekly audit conducted by Assurance Quality.

Jul-Oct Repack RA (Reject Analysis) and SPQI Quality Control ;

As RA I sampled the repacker's reject bins, conducting a 50 fruit sample to verify they were discarding the correct fruit. If and export "good fruit" were found I informed the QC and Quality Supervisor. Additional samples are conducted and all information relayed back to QC and Supervisor.

• Samples are entered into our data system which saved and shared with managers

Another task is pressure testing fruit to make sure the quality of fruit hasn't diminished while in the cool stores. Data from pressure tests are used by Inventory to prioritise fruit that needs to be shipped earlier.

Oct-Nov Repacker;

Travelled to other sites Opotiki and Washer Road to continue work.

• As a repacker jobs include tipping fruit onto belts, grading and packing. rotated throughout the shift.

Responsible for assessing leaf samples under a microscope ensuring all samples are processed in an appropriate time frame. Adhering to all health, safety and hygiene protocols.

• Travelled to the Hawkes bay region for 4 days and Whangarei for 7 days. On work trips conducting and assessing leaf samples from that area.

Night shift Mar-Jun; Quality fruit weight monitor.

• A few main tasks throughout the shift include walking the line and confirming that the counts and fruit labels are correct (matching with the BDM screen and EAN label on the packaging) for both Class 1 and Class 2.
• Individually weight 40 fruit from each size to assure that the correct weight fruit are being packed into correct sizes.
• If any data are incorrect additional checks are to be made whether it's the counts, weight of fruit "undersize", labels on the fruit or EAN labels on the packs the Line Manager and Line Quality Manager are to be informed of the results of my samples.
• Complete any corrective actions that the grade quality samplers require, and determine if the pallet of kiwifruit needs to be reworked.
• Whenever I had time I went and helped out the other departments e.g packing and grading

Day Shift Jun- Sep; SPQI Quality Control:

• Task include sampling a certain amount of kiwifruit from pallets that are in the cool stores, and deciding whether or not that pallet needs further work, or if the quality of the fruit is still high enough to be loaded out as is.
• Another task is pressure testing fruit to make sure the quality of fruit hasn't diminished while in the cool stores. Data from pressure tests are used by Inventory to prioritise fruit that needs to be shipped earlier.

While in the Lab I am responsible for assessing leaf samples under a microscope. Ensuring all samples are processed within appropriate time frames. Adhering to all health, safety, and hygiene protocols.

• Travelled to the Hawkes bay region for 5 days and Whangarei for 7 days. On work trips conducting and assessing leaf samples from that area.

Whilst out in the field (kiwifruit orchards) tasks are collecting leaf samples from a particular block in the orchard; going down each row collecting a leaf per bay and placing leaves inside a bag to be sampled by the lab.

• Also while collecting leaves check the surrounding fruit for specific insects and pests. Noting all information on labels that are attached to the bags.
• While the field team are collecting samples another responsibility I had was entering all the information into a data spreadsheet which is sent to our field manager.

Another part of the field was crop assessment which our team occasionally done.

• Duties were counting the fruit inside 1 bay; grading out the rejects and leaving them to the side and collecting 90 fruit for the lab testing
• Once finished entering all information into data spread sheets and sending to our field manager.

Nightshift Mar-Jun Class 2 Team Leader;

Carried out day to day duties accurately and efficiently. Performed duties in applicable standards in accordance with policies and regulatory guidelines to promote safe working environments.

• Complete staff rosters
• Complete department audits every hour and depart workbook every shift
• Conduct pre shift meetings (shift KPIs, health and safety briefings)
• Replace and maintain label operator machine to ensure all individual kiwi fruit are labelled
• Use manual and electric trolley jacks to take pallets to strapping bay

When I had time I would:

• Grade Kiwi fruit (export, class 2, class 3 or process)
• Prep boxes that the kiwifruit will be packed into
• Pack kiwifruit into boxes/trays
• Label boxes/trays with correct EAN labels and stack on to pallets

Dayshift Jun-Oct;

• Day Shift consisted of holding multiple positions; grader, packer, tray prep
• Anywhere that needed help until the packing season ended
• Once the repack season started jobs consisted of; SPQI Quality Control, Repacker, Reject Analysis and QC of a repack table.

We went to multiple sites during repack to be able to continue to work; Eastpack Opotiki and Quarry Road

Nov-Dec;

• Repair and Maitinance e.g cleaning down belts, rollers and tables, getting the packhouse ready for the upcoming packing season.

Responsible for assessing leaf samples under a microscope ensuring all samples are processed in an appropriate time frame. Adhering to all health, safety and hygiene protocols.

February-March;

• Repair and maintenance cleaning and preparing the packhouse for the upcoming season

Night Shift Mar-Jun Class 2 (2IC then later Team Leader)

• Carried out day to day duties accurately and efficiently. Performed duties in applicable standards in accordance with policies and regulatory guidelines to promote safe working environments.
• Conduct pre shift meetings (shift KPIs, health and safety briefings)
• Complete staff roaster, department hourly audits and Fill out department workbook at the end of shift.

A major part was managing staff to maintain a smooth running shift, whether it was sending them to other departments or adapting with low staff numbers.

Day Shift Jun-Nov;

• Day Shift consisted of holding multiple positions; grader, packer, tray prep anywhere that needed help until the packing season ended
• Once the repack season started jobs consisted of; SPQI Quality control, Repacker, Reject Analysis and QC of a repack table.
• We went to multiple sites during repack to be able to continue to work; Eastpack Opotiki, Eastpack Te Puke Washer Road and Collins Lane

Nov-Dec;

• Repair and Maitinance e.g cleaning down belts, rollers and tables, getting the packhouse ready for the upcoming packing season.

• Oct-Nov; consisted of Bud thinning, bud tipping, ladders prepping new cane and adding onto to strings, orchard maintenance
• Nov-Feb; Summer pruning, fruit thinning and orchard maintenance

Nightshift; Packer

Pack kiwifruit into boxes or trays, ensuring the fruit is flat and wrapped. Assuring counts and fruit labels match BDM screens and EAN labels.

• Oct-Nov; consisted of Bud thinning, bud tipping, ladders prepping new cane and adding onto strings, orchard maintenance
• Nov-Mar; Summer pruning, fruit thinning and orchard maintenance
• Mar-Jun; Fruit picking

As a seasonal orchard worker I only worked when I could e.g good whether conditions.
