At my age, I've obviously been working for a long time but that has also given me the opportunity to try a lot of different jobs - and you simply can't beat experience, in years or life skills.
Regardless of what role I've been employed in, I've always given it a hundred percent - to my employer, to my colleagues, and to the job itself.
It's hard to say what my 'perfect' job might be, but what I do know is this... treat people with respect and hopefully you'll earn it in return; do an honest day's work and go home with your head held high - knowing you've made a customer happy, your boss proud, and that you've put your heart and soul into it.
In addition to my primary role as a Presser, this job involves numerous other tasks and duties such as... the washing, drying, tagging and packing of garments; greeting and dealing with customers when I'm on the Front Desk; using one of the work vans to do pick-ups and deliveries to and from various locations around the city; cleaning all work areas, staff areas and machinery during quiet times; plus Opening and/or Closing the Waltham and Richmond branches when required (including cash handling and till balancing).
During the daytime I cleaned private houses, then in the evenings I supervised a small team involved in the cleaning of commercial buildings.
Cleaned the Theatre Rooms, Pharmacy and Morgue at Timaru Hospital under contract through Spotlight and the South Canterbury DHB.
Solely in charge of the Hospital Wing Kitchen and Apartments Kitchen, I assisted the Chef in the Main Kitchen prepare meals for over 1000 residents (three times per day, seven days a week).
