Work History

Steel Erecting / Welding - Leading Hand/Supervisor

MG Steelworks

MG Steelworks has been the bulk of my working career in New Zealand.

My duties here included -

  • Erecting structural steel buildings and frames with mechanical fixings and welding processes.
  • Crane dogging and rigging
  • Quality assurance processes to finalize builds to high quality standards
  • Identification of workshop errors and on-site remedial fabrication and detailer modifications
  • Removal of unnecessary steel from existing buildings with oxy-acetylene and cutting tools
  • Heavy plant operation - Tele-handler, fork-lifts, knuckle-booms etc.
  • Workshop and on-site structural welding. This includes overhead and vertical positions with corresponding tickets required
  • Overseeing jobs in supervisory role

Welding / Carpentry

My first job when I arrived in New Zealand was a short project in Twizel constructing a rotary dairy shed.

My main duties were -

  • Marking out, assembly and installation of various dairy related structures
  • Installation and erection of frames and trusses
  • Welding up steel balustrades, gates and other farm related metal structures - Mainly light gauge gas-less welding
  • Organizing and erecting corresponding steel from engineering plans
  • Various welding repairs on heavy steel such digger buckets and drilling equipment such as augers - Arc welding
  • Marking out and welding cleats and for steel-concrete bolt connections

Fabricator/Alucobond Installer

GLD Welding/Naps Alucobond
07.2011 - 08.2016

GLD Welding was under a sponsorship scheme in Australia on a 4 year working visa. in addition to 1 year prior work with this company before being offered a long term role

Work here included -

  • Manufacture of various steel products in a workshop environment and installs on-site.
  • Reading shop drawings and using welding and fabrication processes to create high quality, truss cleats and metal beams
  • Use of various machines and tools including steel croppers and benders
  • Fabrication and install of metal walkways and architectural canopies\gates for residential and commercial builds
  • Pipeline welding


GLD's sister company NAPS consisted of the installation of alluminium composite sheets, which consisted of:


  • Cutting and routing of Alucobond sheets for various architectural displays including building cladding and interior features.


  • Preparation and fitting of tophat and batons to ensure a straight and accurate surface to fix to.


  • Fitting sheets and panels to a high degree of accuracy after the fabrication stage.
