Kaia Te Kani

My name is Kaia Te Kani, Age 28, Male Maori currently seeking opportunity for ongoing work, currently i am on ACC and am restricted to light duties, my work place leading up to my current situation was with a company in Auckland (Maxbuild LTD) which i have left as the learning experiences along side knowledge to be learnt had come to its time.

In Regards to Truck and heavy machinery operation, although i have my WTR and are capable in operating front end loaders, rollers, Sweepers etc, my time spent on a excavator has been limited although i am definitely capable in operating my skills on the machinery are yet to be crafted into the level of craftsmanship required for where i would like them to be.

A little insight regarding the work i have been doing over the past 6 months involves the following.

- Gabion installation (Budgets ranging from 20k-90k)

- Retaining walls

- Structural Bridge Repairs

- Bridge Joint Repairs

- Stock Take

- Gantries Maintenance

- TTM Installation and operation.

As foreman of the crews undertaking these roles, my responsibilities were and limited to;

- Managing budgets including materials, machinery and contracted workers to fulfill tasks at hand.

- Putting together and applying plans to finish required task within specialized time frames to cater for financial benefits of the company.

- Safety briefings and management policies on and off site to create a safe working environment.

- Retaining written approval, TMP documentation and filing weekly activity spreadsheets to local TMCs and District councils in the area of operation.

- Project Reports filed daily including managing and documentation stages of activities throughout projects allocated to me.

The work ranged from Kaipara to coromandel to waitomo to Rotorua and essentially most places inbetwwen which required a lot of travelling and at times staying away from home for weeks on end, Most our clients for these jobs were the likes of local district councils mentioned prior and also major companies such as Fulton Hogan, Waikato District Alliance etc.

In terms of progressing into further career opportunities is a must, At this point i am currently seeking light physical duties as my knee has a current ACL and MCL tear which i am booked in to have surgery completed on the 20th january 2024 which will see me off work duties for at least 6 weeks in Which at that stage i am hoping to be fit and able to continue full time work and progressing in these fields.
