Work History

Mechanic Apprentice

Akaroa Motor Garage
01.2021 - Current
  • Before starting my Apprenticeship in February 2022 I would mainly conduct services on vehicles, check and repair brake systems, fit and balance new tyres and complete punctured tyre repairs.
  • After beginning my Apprenticeship, I now have a wider range of tasks I complete such as analysing vehicle diagnostics, replacing and repairing car parts, performing wheel alignments, ordering car parts and many other day-to-day tasks in the workshop.
  • I have competed all of the theory aspect of my Apprenticeship, but there are a few practical aspects I have not yet been able to complete due to the specific work not coming into the workshop. I would roughly say this is about 25%, once these have been done my Apprenticeship will be complete.
  • Since August 2023 I have been filling the role of Workshop Manger. This consists of managing and communicating with our team and delegating jobs on a weekly, and daily basis. I also handle customer communication and ensure that jobs are being completed in the time frame set. Filling this role has increased my time management skills, customer relations skills and has allowed me to see the deeper level of maintaining a workshop and looking after the team.
  • I am regularly on call for AA. This typically involves jump starts, vehicle tows, vehicle diagnosis and road side repairs. The radius for call outs covers a 30k radius from Akaroa. This has helped me develop my quick and practical thinking and also communication skills.

Labourer

  • During this role I completed a range of tasks such as repairs on agricultural equipment, lawn mower repairs, hydraulic repairs, welding and chain sharpening
  • This role increased my knowledge on different types of repairs and helped me develop skills that have assisted me in future employment such as team communication, practical thinking, taking initiative on tasks, problem solving and attention to detail.
