• As a wellness partner (health care assistant), my key responsibilities are assisting residents with their daily activities; for example, maintaining their personal hygiene, assisting them in dressing and grooming, toileting, mobilization, feeding, socialization, administering medication, cleaning common areas, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and documentation. I also use a hoist to assist residents who need full support with mobilization, as well as assist with meal preparation and household tasks.

• Admission of patients • Discharging of patients • Assisting patients in feeding, re-mobilization, and personal hygiene • Bowel care • Administration of oral and intravenous medications • Intravenous cannulation site care • Monitoring of CBG, vital signs, oxygen saturation, urine output, GCS, and general status of patients • Insertion of indwelling catheters and NGT • Removal of both male and female indwelling catheters and NGT • Oral and tracheostomy care and suctioning • Performing ECG • Performing 2-hourly turns and pressure area care • Monitoring patients on inotropes, such as adrenaline infusion, noradrenaline infusion, insulin infusion (including DKA and HHS protocols), dobutamine infusion, dopamine infusion, hydralazine infusion, and magnesium sulfate infusion • Administering hyperkalemia treatments, PRBC, platelets, and plasma • Wound assessments and dressings using aseptic techniques • Transferring patients to different wards and hospitals as directed by the physicians • Health education on diet, exercise, medication compliance, personal hygiene, and the importance of attending discharge clinics. As well as advising on danger signs and when to visit the nearest health facility immediately. • Doing CPR and deceased care • Collecting specimens of sputum, MSU, CSU, long line tips • Removing long lines and dialysis catheters • Preparing patients for dialysis and long line procedures • Pre-op and post-op care • Referring patients to zone nurses upon discharge • Documentation • Nursing COVID-19 patients in a critical state in the acute medical ward • Nursing ventilated patients • Doing dialysis.

Experience with machines used and operated in the ward: dinamap, ECG machines, glucometer, pulse oximeter, infusion pumps, cardiac monitor, stethoscope, oxygen regulator and oxyviva, suction machines, nebulizer machine, defibrillator, Airvo, ventilator, and dialysis machines.
