The $5.5 billion project is ambitious. It’s the largest transport infrastructure project that New Zealand has ever built. The twin 3.45-kilometre-long tunnels, built up to 42 metres below the Auckland city centre, will connect downtown at Waitematā Station (Britomart) with a redeveloped Maungawhau on the Western Line. Two new underground stations will open up central city access: Karanga-a-Hape, with entrances at Mercury Lane and Beresford Square, and Te Waihorotiu, at Victoria and Wellesley Streets, Midtown. Delivered by Link Alliance (Vinci Construction Grands Projects SAS, Downer, Soletanche Bachy, WSP, AECOM, Tonkin + Taylor, and CRL Ltd).

Project Overview:

The four-lane Waikato Expressway Hamilton section reduces travel time between Tirau and Auckland by 35 minutes, improving safety. The 21.8 km expressway project involved four million cubic meters of earthworks, 17 bridges, five major intersections, and extensive local road crossings.

  • Maintain an organisation-wide, integrated risk management framework and approach that incorporates accountability and fosters continuous improvement.
  • Train and support all Alliance staff to effectively identify, analyse, and assess risks and opportunities and implement appropriate risk treatment strategies for design, construction, commercial, operational, and maintenance activities.
  • Proper communication with the team members about the client's feedback is essential to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
  • Working closely with the Sub-Alliance Earthworks Team.
  • Having a good understanding of subsoil drainage networks.
  • Having a strong knowledge of the cut/fill model and opportunities that might benefit the project commercially.

  • Monitors approve the baseline by using Schedule Variance (SV), Cost Variance (CV), Schedule Performance Index (SPI), and Cost Performance Index (CPI). They compare Earned Value, Planned Value, and Actual Cost by making an S-curve to provide Earned Value data that is performing over budget and behind schedule.
  • Collect and analyse risk management data, and provide regular reports to the Alliance Manager Team and Project Alliance Board.
