• Engage with farmers and calf rearers to ensure best practices are in place for the quality of the stock being reared.
• Conduct audits and ensure farmers and calf rearers are complying with the standard required.
• Weigh and quality check all stock being supplied to First Light Farms on a regular basis.
• Record keeping and communication with farmers and calf rearers as stock require exiting or entering properties.
• Weekly teams meeting with the South Island and Head Office.
• Management of a casual staff member.
• Loading and carting of stock between farms.
• Excel spreadsheets, Magic used for farmer information and data entry. Microsoft Teams is also used.
• All animal health and welfare practices are monitored, and around-the-clock advice is provided for farmers and calf rearers as needed.

1270 Organic Stock, Pasture feed, 556ha, 9 pivots, Cow Manager wearables, Protrac Auto drafting system, Haylo monitoring system for water and refrigeration, Regen monitoring for the two effluent systems, TREV Farm Management reporting system, Cell sence in shed monitoring system. Management and employment of 5 full-time employees and casuals as required. 50-bale rotary with cup removers and a 700-cow feedpad.

Execute the conversion to organic farming, implement and oversee huge farm structure changes, contouring land for pivots to operate, and overseeing the building of 9 pivots.

Helping mold and change the farm from 50/50 to Organic and contract milker run.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Daily management of the farming operation as a contract milker.
• Managing the complex organic system, at times up to 9 herds, including the young stock.
• Design and Implementation of the best on-farm practices for Organics.
• Managing our 5 full-time staff and our part-time maintenance staff member.
• Communicating nearly daily with the Southern Pastures management team.
• Being the I'm the happy-to-do-it guy who is on the ground and on call to help any other Southern Pastures Contractors or Southern Pastures Management team when problems arise.
• Have been involved in project management projects – the building of 9 pivots, 1 underpass, fitting of rubber mats on the feed pad, the building of the young stock yards, and crush.
• My husband, Scott, and I run this role together as a joint management team.
