My current position is as a part-time Respiratory Physiologist. it is a rewarding and challenging job that involves completing diagnostic tests to assist in the treatment of people with lung disorders.
I have now decided the time is right to explore working in the teaching field as a Teacher Aide. It is a role that I have always been interested in. I have always loved working with children and have a desire to assist young people to achieve their best.
I have three teenage children, 19,16 and 13. Two children have dyslexia and have had to find their way through high school using tools from school and help at home. It has been an interesting journey and one that I would like to help other children complete.
As a Respiratory physiologist I carry out tests on children and adults who have a range of breathing problems. For example, asthma, chest pains, shortness of breath or problems with the muscles that control breathing. It is a fabulous job that I love. I get to meet new people and help them at a time when they might be feeling vulnerable and worried about what is wrong with them. I currently work part time at the laboratory in Greenlane and Pukekohe.
I have worked as a reader/writer for tests and NCEA exams at my children's school. I began this work after appreciating the help my son had received from his reader/writer. I love the way I can assist students and help at least in a small way in their learning journey. It is a valuable assistance that I would love to see all students have the opportunity to access.
Volunteering at my children's primary school was one of the highlights of my children's schooling. Helping in the classrooms was such a rewarding way to help teachers and to help the children with their work.
