Assisted guests with luggage and personal belongings during check-in and check-out. In Samoa being Porters we not only assist guests with their luggages but we also have deal with the Resort activities for the guests such as crab racing, doing the Samoan oven and describing our way to the guests, coconut husking in the Samoan way, village touring and clamps touring. My first week working in the Resort I was interviewed in a Security Guard position but then the General Manager ordered me to assist one of the Porter to take the village tours as the Porters are short of workers. I was caught off guard as it was my first time in the Resort so I was expecting it to be a look around and studying what to do. Since I'm from the village was something that motivated me to do it as I knew the village really well. There were 15 couples from different countries around the world, 9 children from ages 5-12 and 13 adults were guests whom we will guide.My Porter partner that accompanied me was scared and face signal myself to be the tour guide so without a touring experience I tried my best introducing myself first to our guests then step by step I went... After 2 hours of the tour I lead the guests back to the Resort and on our way back I saw our Manager standing on the Resort Entrance to greet the guests back. First questioned from her was how was it? One of the guest replied, "It was phenomenal, then I can hear another one saying for a starter it was professional" I was shocked to be called back to the Manager's Office later than afternoon with one simple question I was asked by our Manager,"How did you do it?" My response was I don't need an experience to do whatever work I asked to do. What I need is honesty and the mindset that I can do it to make the Resort proud.I was promoted the Porter Supervisor position straight the day after that. I believe that experience is nothing without honesty.
