  • Director (Authority), Environmental Risk Management Authority for New Zealand Govt (Now EPA), 2004 - Jun 2011, Appointed by the Minister for the Environment, I served for 3 terms (a total of 7 years) on the Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA New Zealand) on a part time basis. As a Board/Authority member I had the regular corporate governance role as well as a quasi judicial position making decisions under the Hazardous Substances and New Organism (HSNO) act of 1996. The act regulates both the use and import of hazardous chemicals as well as the regulation of new organisms into New Zealand, including genetically modified organisms. As an Authority member, I chaired and sat on the decision-making committee of many public hearings under the guidance of a Maori advisory committee Ngā Kaihautū. ERMA became the EPA in July 2011.
