Summary

During the past 8 years in Primary Education I have grown immensely both personally and professionally. I believe my biggest strengths to come from this growth are my passion and success in teaching neuro-diverse ākonga and my commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the integration of Te Ao Māori in my daily practice.

Neuro-diverse

  • Differentiated instruction: the ability to adapt my teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of neuro-diverse students.
  • Inclusive classroom management: my skills in creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and respected.
  • Collaboration with specialists: my experience in working collaboratively with specialists, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, Resource Teacher Learning and Behaviour and Educational Psychologists to provide comprehensive support for neuro-diverse students.
  • Knowledge of neuro-diversity: my understanding of neuro-diversity and my commitment to creating a neuro-inclusive learning environment.

Integration of Te Ao Māori in my daily practice:

  • The use of te reo Māori words and phrases in my daily conversations and lessons.
  • Learning about and celebrating Māori holidays and events.
  • The encouragement of collaborative learning and group work.
  • Learn about the pūrākau that explain the history of the past and take trips in our local community to places that have significance to Māori.
  • Fostering a sense of belonging and community within the classroom.
  • Continuously reflect on my teaching practices and how they align with Te Ao Māori values.
  • Seek feedback and support from Māori students, whānau, and colleagues.
