During my career, I have held positions in both clinical and leadership roles including community support worker for people with intellectual and physical disabilities, Neonatal Nurse and unit coordinator/ACN, Public Health Nurse, Speciality Clinical Nurse for Public Health, and currently interim Clinical Nurse Manager for the Midcentral Public Health team.

The transition over time into senior leadership roles has allowed me to gain insight into the mahi that we do well, the areas of our mahi that we need to strengthen, and the importance of networking and partnerships to achieve better health outcomes for our communities.

Why I’m a Strong Fit:

Leadership and partnership Experience:

Equity and Cultural Competence:

  • I am committed to advancing equity and Te Tiriti aspirations to ensure we can lead a Tiriti dynamic workforce.
  • · I have recently started my Te Reo Māori journey to firstly expand my knowledge and also to open up opportunities to improve my practice and relationships with both my colleagues and our wider community.
  • Committed to building and developing the capability and capacity of Māori, Pacific peoples, people with disabilities, and others within the Public Health workforce.
  • I'm passionate about ensuring there is a strong culture of Te Māuri o Rongo within Public Health to ensure our workforce feel supported and empowered.

Innovation and Adaptability:

  • I thrive in dynamic environments. I embrace innovation, continuously seeking new ways to improve processes and outcomes. I am excited to contribute and be part of the implementation of the NPHS's new ways of working.
  • I have also developed and implemented policies, procedures, and evidence-based practices to ensure quality care.
  • I embrace new challenges and produce my best work under pressure.

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Having played a key role during public health emergencies including Covid lead and regular ops-lead in measles outbreaks, I understand the importance of swift and effective action and effectively leading a team during these situations.
  • During my time as a neonatal nurse and shift coordinator I was involved in the care, resuscitation, and transport of babies as young as 23 weeks and worked with our palliative infants and their whānau. This role required me to be fast-thinking, work well under pressure, lead teams, delegate tasks, and have effective, clear, and compassionate communication skills with our team and whānau.
