Lachlan Stewart

Thank you for the opportunity to apply for the Mangōpare Air New Zealand Pilot Cadetship. Growing up, my family travelled with my fathers work, meaning I was fortunate enough to live in Bermuda, Valencia and San Francisco. This travel is what initiated my fascination for flight from a young age. I am currently Studying a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Finance at Otago University. Through my mathematics degree I have been very academically challenged, learning to apply and push myself. This experience has taught me resilience and strong study habits.

Alongside my studies I have a passion for sport including surfing, rugby, sailing and wind foiling. Surfing and wind foiling give me a strong sense of freedom, with foiling having similar basic principles to flying. Being able to combine my mathematical knowledge and analytical mindset to hands-on expertise of controlling a plane to give that similar sense of freedom would be a dream come true.
