Due to my extensive experience within the hospitality industry, and admittedly situational awareness, what could be considered luck, plus ability to apply the necessary/justifiable force required to remove or control particular individuals I have been able to keep a clean, solid, work ethic, which has established over many years. Hence, I started working security in bars on the 30th July 1994 (Canterbury vs South Africa) at "Lochinvars" the list of locations/premises is extensive between then and now where I am currently located at "The Bog". I am at stage of my "career" of trying to teach the next generation how to survive/cope in a industry that can be very trying on you mentally and physically, let alone the pressures, from management, law enforcement, and the public, that are constant but varied.
I ensure that the Lincoln University is safe and secure during my shifts, but the role is actually expanded, therefore could be considered a more custodial role. This is because we do site evaluations on issues that have developed such as electrical faults, water/plumbing issues, access issues, and then making a decision on whether contractors or specific facilities staff need to be called in or just add a note on our reports, so that the issue can be resolved during working hours. Whereas, patrols, and systems monitoring has to be maintained as well.
I have, to the best of my abilities, maintained and developed a safe environment for patrons and staff within the location or premises I was assigned too. The methods I used have adjusted over the years to accommodate industry standards and adhere to company policies, although, at times, I have had to improvise or adapt, as the hospitality industry can be fickle and somewhat situational, especially within bars and nightclubs.
As I have in the past and currently doing, I have controlled, maintained a safe plus hopefully enjoyable environment for staff and patrons alike. This is achieved through years of experience and a ongoing understanding of ever changing standards of the hospitality industry, also including the requirements established by my employers.
Currently besides studies, gaming, and a bit of a movie buff, the bars are pretty much my only other form of entertainment.
I am currently a local social media icon (tik tok) which I find interesting, besides that just doing papers at UC is the only other recognition I am achieving at the moment.
I have a current COA and mountains of experience in various other industries which I use to make myself relatteble to patrons so as to make the nights run smoother.
