- Hillary Outdoors is arguably one of New Zealands leading outdoor education centre’s. At Hillary outdoors a typical week instructing students has me managing a group of 10 students through various adventure activities. At Hillary there is a key focus on progression of learning so the students are left feeling they have learnt valuable life skills weather that is teamwork, communication, self management or more practical skills such as bush navigation and survival, working with ropes, manoeuvring a craft on the water or learning about camping and cooking outdoors. Hillary also has a large focus on kaitiakitanga, flora and fauna, pest control and environmental sustainability thus meaning working here I have gained a wider range of knowledge on the history of the Tongariro National Park and the cultural significance that comes with it.
- For the last 2 years i have also taken on an office based role as Administration and Operations Manager. Within these roles I have gained experience in logistic on a company wide scale as well as being duty manager, scheduling, compiling monthly reports for a wide variety of areas, and participated in overseeing the general training of newer staff members both in the office and on the ground. Being in the office i have also stepped up and cultivated a positive learning and feedback environment by fostering open communication and trust becoming the link between instructors and managers.

- Working a full year at Camp Somerset in a ‘Group Leader’ position has solidified my instructing capabilities and shaped me into the capable instructor I am today. At Somerset I have been working with group sizes from 13-25, dealing with school aged students. Giving them positive experiences of the outdoors, including hiking, canoeing, rock-climbing, abseiling, high ropes and engaging them in other local based activities. I have also run both practice and qualifier Duke of Ed tramps up to the level of silver.

- Co-Efficient is a private business who contracts staff out to different outdoor companies based in Queensland. These programs can range from 5 day hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, rock-climbing programs to single day local based activities at student’s schools or clubs. I was contracted to lead a group of year 10 boys in a multi-day ‘challenge style’ expedition reaching the peaks of two mountains during a four day camp.
