Laurence Anderson

Since moving to Northland, I have been involved in various projects, both for myself and for other people.

Trading as Rural Construction Services Northland, I have developed skills in running and overseeing various-sized projects, along with managing the elements of running a business.

• Reading plans to determine layout requirements to ensure alignment with project specifications.
• Providing guidance and supervision to workers onsite throughout the project, and encouraging skill development.
• Liaising with subcontractors to schedule the various trades, to ensure the smooth running of projects.
• Overseeing team safety by maintaining hazard-free work areas.
• Calculating quotes for customers.

Worked on high-end residential and commercial building projects. While studying the New Zealand building code to become proficient in 3604.

Worked as a site carpenter, engaging in '1st and 2nd fix' carpentry, building knowledge in residential housing.

Working as part of a team, and also alone.

• Gap year

Constructed exhibition stands as an apprentice, while attending evening classes to complete NVQ Level 2 in carpentry.

Duties involved reading plans, building stands in the workshop, then taking and erecting them at national and international exhibitions.

• During my time at Associator, I built a huge amount of confidence with the responsibility I was given and the travel involved.
• Developed leadership skills

Completed a three-year apprenticeship at Parker Knoll Furniture Ltd while attending a day-release college course to attain an NVQ Level 2 in furniture making.

Awarded Apprentice of the Year after second year for outstanding performance.

Acquired diverse skills including health and safety, machine setup, and timber knowledge.

• Gained practical experience in machine setup and operation within a professional environment.
