Leanne Walker

Registered Nurse
Christchurch,CBD

Summary

My name is Leanne Walker, and I am an Orthopaedic Registered Nurse with nearly 10 years experience on ward A4 ( acute orthopaedics) at waipapa, I am looking to transition these skills into another area, and I am very interested in this orthopaedic outpatient position you have advertised. I am passionate about both patient and staff/student education, and I have been a Clinical Liaison nurse for roughly 5-6 years. I am also a qualified CPR instructor, with my CORE Advanced certificate ( Certificate Of Resuscitation & Emergency care inc trauma) among others. I have developed sound critical thinking skills, and can think outside the square when necessary. I am experienced in pain management, and I am an empathetic and patient-focused nurse with a passion for delivering exceptional patient care in the orthopaedic setting. I have a comprehensive understanding of surgical procedures both pre op and post op and demonstrate proficiency in patient assessment and monitoring and post-operative care. I am committed to improving patient outcomes and ensuring safe, supportive environment for both patients and staff. I have an extensive back ground in surgical nursing, and care for patients both pre-operatively and post operatively. I am proficient at problem solving, and can advocate for my patients when necessary. I have strong communication skills and work well within a team environment, but can equally work efficiently alone. I am adaptable, and solution focused, and can think outside the square if the situation requires this. Working in a very busy ward, I have developed very good time management skills, and have learned to be organised and to prioritise tasks as needed. After I graduated my NetP year, I completed the "Health assessment of the adult" paper among others. We do a fair amount towards rehabilitation while waiting for a bed to become available elsewhere. I am skilled at getting people up and mobilising particularly if they have lost their confidence post fall and I promote independence for the patient where it is both indicated, and safe to do so. I have some experience with plasters but its mainly in removing them, splitting and/or doing train tracks in plasters that are too tight. I am however extremely keen to learn new things, and would welcome training in this and other fields.

Interests

I am a very keen horse rider, and have 2 horses, one I compete, and the other has turned 2 and a half years old and will be started under saddle later in the year In my younger days, I used to event my horse which I loved, Fast forward to now, and I have developed a passion for dressage and compete regularly I love the discipline involved, and you know exactly what you need to do to get higher scores and move through the levels I volunteer at various competitions as a first aider, and my orthopaedic skills, and my CORE training are very useful for this The range of injuries a rider can sustain are varied, and range from minor, to major Occasionally I will teach riders, or help out by taking a trek or two, but as the season is gearing up for dressage, this is what takes my spare time

I have a 21-year-old son whom I am super proud of, and I really enjoy spending time with him and his girlfriend
