LEWIS LANGFORD

LEWIS LANGFORD

Christchurch,CAN

Summary

As a 7th-generation Langford from Golden Bay, you can’t throw a rock in this town without hitting a Langford with red hair, through this deep connection I’ve been shaped by the land, my family, and a close-knit community. Growing up on a farm has taught me invaluable life skills that extend far beyond the paddock. Whether it’s problem-solving on the fly as the cows come barrelling down the laneway and we somehow tangled the reel, or communicating efficiently with my brothers while drafting stock, I’ve learned to adapt and think quickly. Life on the farm doesn’t pause for bad weather or late nights, and the cows needing to be moved at 10 o’clock in the rain is a constant reminder that the world is bigger than just me. My parents, who are deeply involved in the local community, have instilled in me the importance of “building community” (my father’s favourite saying) and supporting those around us. I’ve seen firsthand how strong communities come together—whether it’s gathering for haymaking with neighbours (and enjoying the cake afterward, which is still my favourite part) or planting stream reserves as a family. These experiences have taught me the power of connection and teamwork. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to grow up surrounded by people who have shown me the value of hard work, commitment, and service to others. As I look ahead to the next chapter of my life, I’m excited to carry these values forward, eager to contribute to any community I am part of in the same way that Golden Bay has shaped me.

Now studying Business and Psychology at the University of Canterbury, I’m passionate about combining these fields to better understand people, lead with empathy, and create positive, lasting change in the world.
