Leadership:
This year, I served as Head Girl and a Prefect in 2023, I also became a senior leader for the Year 7 class, where I helped with form times, organized games, and provided guidance. Additionally, I have been a Competitive Gymnastics coach for four years, progressing from coaching juniors to higher-level competitive gymnasts, while gaining experience by collaborating with the head coach and other coaches.
Community / Volunteering:
Last year, I was a flag bearer for both ANZAC Day and Armistice Day. This year I have had the honour of speaking at both services in Kerikeri. I helped serve breakfast to the Veterans and their Families at both ANZAC Days. During my Summer holidays and weekends from December 2023 to March 2024 I volunteered on the R. Tucker Thompson, a tall ship that sails in the Bay of Islands. The funds raised on the day sails in summer go towards funding youth voyages that run for the rest of the year.
Initiatives:
In 2023 I introduced three new initiatives into my school: Junior School Athletics Day, a Junior Netball team, and a Matariki Hangi. I organised and ran the Junior school athletics, and worked with the junior teachers to run trainings for the event. Myself and two other prefects coached the first two junior schools netball team at my school. This included planning and running in-school and after school trainings and coaching at the games on the weekends. I organised the first Matariki Hangi which feed over 200 people. All of the food was donated by the school community and was free of charge. This ran alongside our Matariki celebration and the whole school was involved with preparing the food and digging the hole to make it a community event. I ran and orgainsed these initiatives again this year as Head Girl. In addition to these I organised Pink shirt day, to support anti-bullying and was apart of organising this years St Patrick's day fundraiser.
Activities/Courses:
In 2023, I participated in a 7-day Youth Voyage on the R.Tucker Thompson with 10 other students from around Northland, an experience that inspired me to later volunteer on the ship. At the beginning of this year, I visited the Manawanui ship in Paihia for Waitangi Day, where I toured the ship. In April, I attended the Navy Schools to Seas program at the Devonport Naval Base, which was an incredible experience. Later in July, I received a full scholarship to attend the Future Leaders Academy in the Cook Islands (the scholarship was awarded by the Kerikeri Gymnastics Club, where I have coached for the past four years).
