I began my nursing studies at ARA Institute of Canterbury in 2016 and worked as a hospital aide in Christchurch Public Hospital while I finished my degree. I then got offered a NETP position in Ward 14 at Christchurch Public Hospital, where I worked for 2 years before having a baby. Ward 14 is a busy three specialty ward which includes general medicine, cardiology and nephrology patients.
After being a stay at home mum for just over a year I returned to the workforce working for Bloom Hearing Specialists in a hearing care nurse role.
My role in Ward 14 includes preparing and discharging patients to a variety of settings, preparing patients for theater and the cath lab, post operative care, working closely with MDT to optimize patient care, and on a few occasions being nurse in charge.
My role as a hearing care nurse includes microsuction ear wax removal, hearing aid support, looking at the ear health and referring on to audiologist or GP's if needed, and basic hearing tests.
I am very hardworking, respectful, caring and strive to give the very best care to the patients and Whanau I look after. I work well under pressure and multitask well, completing all tasks in my shifts. I can effectively communicate with MDT, medical teams and other nursing staff. I can work autonomously and problem solve well.
