Authorised Officer
New Zealand Police
08.2019 - Current
As an Authorised Officer for the NZ Police, I am based in the Auckland Custody Unit. This is a hub where offenders are brought for processing (searching, fingerprinting, entering of charges etc.) and held in custody until they are released or transferred to court. This role varies massively and requires quick thinking and great communication, along with an ability to defuse potentially volatile situations. Thus far, my time with the Police has taught me the importance and effectiveness of good communication as well as the ability to remain calm regardless of the situation.
I have undergone several stages of training for this role which included theory, physical and scenario training. I also continue to undergo regular scenario training e.g. physical restraint and cell extractions. Ultimately however, every day is a day of learning, as each day brings about a new set of challenges.
