During this internship I worked alongside a range of service users varying in intellectual and physical abilities. I had the opportunity to transfer knowledge gained in current classes to positively impact the service users at Arts for health. I also built strong and genuine relationships with the service users.
During this internship at Gisborne Hospital, I worked alongside and shadowed many different areas in the hospital, such as physiotherapists, visiting neurodevelopmental therapists, and occupational therapists. I had the opportunity to work with a range of clients giving me the chance to learn how to build rapport appropriately.
During this placement I practiced professional note taking, where I had to take in information and exert it in a professional manner. I also learnt and practiced the admin aspect of occupational therapy. Such as ordering equipment to clients residence and filing documents digitally.
Over summer for the past seven years I have worked in maize detasseling. This job involved continuous intense physical labor, team work and collaboration.
