Senior Coastal Specialist

- I am currently employed as a Senior Coastal Specialist, in the Coastal Management Team of the Engineering, Assets & Technical Advisory Unit at Auckland Council.
- In this role I provide technical coastal advice and support to a range of internal Auckland Council departments. Specifically, I provide coastal operational management advice, specialist technical input and support to the coastal structure renewals programme, I am a member of the team delivering and implementing the Council’s Regional Shoreline Adaptation Plan Programme, and I provide technical support to the operation and further development of the Auckland Council Coastal Monitoring Programme.
Senior Coastal Consents and Compliance Officer

- In this role in the Natural Resources Special Input Unit, my key responsibilities were to provide technical review of coastal permit applications, and coastal consent monitoring. I was the primary advisor in the team in regards to coastal process related matters.
- This included review of and provision of technical advice in regards to; complex and large scale resource consent applications, responses to coastal hazards, beach replenishment, mangrove removal, review of monitoring related to large scale sand extraction consents, and input to statutory coastal policy.

- This role in the Air, Land, Water & Coastal Unit involved review of the previous Auckland Regional Plan: Coastal, and development of Auckland Unitary Plan coastal provisions.
- Specific topics I worked on included; coastal structures, mooring and recreational boating, surfbreaks, public access, and the development of a new geospatially defined “coastline”. I was also involved in the development of a Marine Spatial Plan for the Hauraki Gulf.

- Prior to formation of the Auckland Council, I worked for the former Auckland Regional Council from 2003 till 2010. During that time I held the positions of Environmental Resources Officer in the Coastal Environment Team, and Coastal Consent Specialist in the Regulatory Services Team.
- My work involved; processing coastal permit applications, development and implementation of a coastal compliance monitoring programme, working with the previous city and district Councils in regards to their coastal assets, the beach profile monitoring programme, coast care (dune planting), working with the Harbourmaster on navigation and safety matters, a member of the oil spill response team, and developing educational material.
