  • GENERALIST: Under the supervision of the Chief Medical Technologist, examines blood, urine and other body fluids in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. Serving as the constant aid for the scientific care of the patients. With a minimum of 100 specimens being processed per day.


  • PHLEBOTOMY AND RECEPTION: Perform routine procedures through proper identification and extraction (from age 0 to adult), collection, managing and processing of samples; interacts with non-medical personnel regarding inquiries on laboratory protocols, procedures and patient preparations, as well as information at the reception are; conducts physical, chemical and microscopic analysis of blood, urine and other body fluids.


  • CLINICAL MICROSCOPY AND PARASITOLOGY: Performs physical, chemical and microscopic reading of urine and other body fluids; Checks for the presence of ova or parasites for fecal analysis.


  • HEMATOLOGY: Conducts complete blood count and other hematologic tests to determine their relationship to various physical and pathological conditions; Examines platelet counts, white blood cell differential counts and other anomalies present in a stained smear; Performs erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) for the presence of inflammation; Executes Dengue NS1 test using kits

  • CLINICAL CHEMISTRY: Performs routine blood chemistry analyses using Vitros 350, Roche Cobas C111 and Easylyte Expand; Correct patient preparation prior to blood extraction for chemistry analyses (e.g., fasting instructions).


  • MICROBIOLOGY: Handling and reading samples of medico-legal patients for gram staining, KOH and presence of spermatozoa.


  • BLOOD BANKING, IMMUNOLOGY and SEROLOGY:
  • Recruitment of Donor voluntary and directed donors.
  • Blood donation process that starts with blood donor registration and proper identification followed by donor health assessment questionnaire, physical exam (blood pressure, weight, body temperature, etc) and blood screening (hemoglobin, hematocrit, wbc ct, and blood typing with rh typing) for accepted donors.
  • Counseling of temporarily deferred donors regarding their concerns.
  • Daily QC of Vitros ECi or test kits.
  • Performs component preparation for packed red blood cells, platelet concentrate and fresh frozen plasma.
  • Performs crossmatching, forward and reverse typing of patients.
  • Performs phlebotomy during blood donation.
  • Checking of blood pool and other blood updates per shift.
  • Cooperates with other blood bank facilities when outsourcing of blood is needed.


Machines Handled: Presvac Refrigerated Centrifuge, BTM-6 Blood Thaw Machine, Vitros ECi


  • QUALITY CONTROL AND ASSURANCE: Performs quality control in every machine and calibrate them; Perform all technical duties assigned in the laboratory according to standard operating procedures; Complies with the department’s safety and waste management program; Ensures timely, accurate and precise releasing of laboratory results.
