  • Hello, greetings all
  • My name is Mel.
  • I have been working in MH & Addictions for 17 yrs in various roles. I began my nursing career in MH as a new graduate nurse in the acute inpatient ward at Rotorua hospital (Whare Whakaue) following that I moved to community based MH nursing in various roles in the Bay of Plenty and Midlands Regional areas. I have worked in the courts as the Addiction Assessor Practitioner (Bay Of Plenty) followed by a brief period in forensic MH nursing (Waikato Hospital, Henry Rongomau Forensic MHS)
  • My current employment is with ADHB, Te toka Tumai (Kahui
  • Te Ihi: MH & Addictions Services)
  • My employment career began in the defence force as an army medic, I suppose that sparked an interest for me personally in persuing a specialty career in MHS, however I am comprehensively trained and registered. I am passionate about nursing, nurses and the profession as a whole and what we contribute to the communities we serve each and every day.
  • I love working with like minded people and I would like to work in the forensic – prison/corrections area again as I thoroughly enjoyed it in my past experiences.
  • I spent a small amount of time (pre-reg, 3 months) in Waikeria prison so have been inside a prison and understand some of the processes and protocols and if offered a position I would be more than happy to do the required orientation/education and training to bring me up to the expected standard required for this environment.
