Michaela Houghton

Palmerston North,MWT

Summary

Kia ora, my name is Michaela Houghton I am a 26 year old teacher who is looking to regain employment in Primary Teaching. I have been working in ECE for 2 years now. I went in to teaching younger children with a mindset of wanting to learn to a deeper level about how the minds of our younger tamariki work and how play-based learning can benefit them as they start their schooling and I can say with certainty that I have learnt a lot.

I'm dedicated to supporting emotional, social and academic development of young children. I've trained in developmental stages and knowledgeable about offering safe, nurturing environments to boost learning. I hold a desire to complement education-based strategies with techniques to promote overall health and wellness.

You will find I am an energetic educator with proven skills in teaching diverse subjects. I keep classrooms organized and students on-task to facilitate effective learning. I am diligent and adaptable in meeting individual student needs with warm, safe educational environments.

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy begins and ends with relationships. I believe a good classroom is a place where students feeling safe and secure, that they have a sense of belonging. Positive relationships with the students and with their families is key. After that we can begin learning. If there is no safety felt in the classroom, no learning will be accomplished.
