Clinical Experience

Ward 5 North (Oncology, Renal & Hematology)

(July – September 2019 : 9 Weeks – Preparation for registration)

5 North provides comprehensive oncology and haematology services,
while also providing palliative and terminal care. Working in partnership
with the patient and their whānau, supporting them to adopt to the
demands of the illness. Working in collaboration with other health
professionals in the shared goal of achievement of a smooth transition
between the ward and home. Working under the direct supervision of
a registered nurse, I was expected to organise my shift according to
the acuity of my patients. Working in such a specialized and complex
ward I was responsible for dispensary of medications, obtaining and
recoding vital sign observations, dressing wounds, checking pressure
areas, maintaining fluid balances, general patient hygiene needs and
accurately documenting nursing reports.

Taking a whole person approach, helping provide and promote high quality specialist palliative care, grief support, education and care planning services. the following specialties Vascular, ENT, Urology and Orthopaedic. The

control measures, Understanding the PAR team and the EWS system
and emergency management.


Rangipapa- Forensic

24 hour mental health assessment and treatment service for individuals
who are experiencing serious mental health concerns. Building a
rapport and interpersonal relationships with individuals. Providing a safe
and caring environment to support the recovery and returning
individuals to independance with the eventual return to the community. Documentation, referrals and medication administration are important aspects of an individual's ongoing care.


Consultation Liaison

Assessment and treatment of people who present on the ward in crisis. Providing a variety of short term intervention/management. Due to the severity of many of the presenting cases, ethical safety was also important.
Observe crises assessments and treatment planning, complete risk
assessment and plan of care. Actively participate in MDT meetings,
Confident with referral process and referring clients to appropriate
services to support with their recovery. Also privy to the administration of the Mental Health Act process and procedures.
