Summary

As a Lecturer I have learned that many of my life skills as a mother, aunty, and grandmother have provided me with great teaching habits.

The ability to take on criticism with a positive outlook and leave what is not in my favor to the side and not dwell on it.

Raising two grandsons from birth has also curved my understanding of young boys and their differentiation in learning.

Having the passion to see tamariki young or old strive to succeed or be the best they can be, not what I or anyone else want them to be.

My passion is a strong passion for helping and teaching others whether they be young or old. Passionate Teacher with experience developing and implementing diverse curriculums covering a wide range of subjects. Highly skilled at motivating students through positive encouragement and reinforcement of concepts via interactive classroom instruction and observation. Successful in helping students develop strong literacy, numeracy, social and learning skills.

Kaiako

Tolaga Bay Area School
Tolaga Bay , Gisborne
02.2010 - 12.2016

Tolaga Bay Area School was a school that taught me many skills that were not seen in a South Auckland school that I had come from.

Farming, Fishing, Sustainability of the rivers, Plants, Trees and many to the list.

What I had to offer to the school and tamariki was I had great classroom management and having understanding of each tamaiti individually.

Parents were happy with the many of their sons and the interacting in lessons held in and out of class, much learning was done with kinesthetic learning and computer programming lessons.

Tolaga Bay was a great experience in my teaching and learning to be more community-involved in and out of school. Participation in the community played a big part in the tamariki trusting in the new Kaiako at kura and in the community. Having my skills and stories of the city life intrigued the tamariki and this was my way of gaining the interest of the tamariki. Letting them know the riches they had in their community, rivers, beaches, SLS programs, horse riding, clearing shearing sheds as fundraisers. Many of lifeskill learning at their front door. Great atmosphere with supportive Kaiako in the kura and many PLD opportunities throughout each year. Reading Recovery, Writing programs, Math programms, Planning and Designing for ICT an endless list of upskilling provided throughout my 6 years teaching at Tolaga Bay Area School. Nga mihi.

Hei Ngutukura o te kura, he mangai, he tautoko, he kairiwhi mo te kura.

I am a dedicated supporter to the Kura and the mokopuna of this kura. I stood in the position to support Kaiako, Whanau, and Tamariki in school and out of school.

Te Reo Maori is the only language spoken and taught in the kura. All the Kaiako are very hard working and passionate about their mahi within the kura. I am proud to be part of the kura and the learning that is delivered in the kura to the tamariki.

The kura works strongly on a Tuakana Teina under the principles of Te Aho Matua. The Kura has been opened for 5 years and is a Teina kura to Te Kura Kauapapa Maori o Kawakawa mai Tawhiti.

Education

Bachelor of Teaching - Teaching Degree

Te Wananga O Awanuiarangi , Whakatane, BOP
11.2009

In 2007 I started my journey with Te Wananga o Awanuiarangi in Auckland. Half way through my 3rd year in 2009 I lost my husband to Cancer, to which we took him back to his turangawaewae Te Araroa. This lead me to finish my journey of completing my Teachers Degree in Whakatane at Te Wananga o Awanuiarangi campus.

Once graduating from Te Wananga o Awanuiarangi and already settled in our new home in Tolaga Bay I then was offered a Teaching position in the Main Stream and accepted the job with excitement and pride.

Previously in moving to Tolaga Bay I had worked as a Full-time Bilingaul Maori Teacher for 10 years on a Teacher Aide wage at Clendon Park Primary School situated in South Auckland Manurewa.

Skills

Skills I gathered and stored in my kete of knowledge are many

When first stepping into a Teacher Aide role I gained knowledge in learning about behavior and that each tamaiti was different Therefore they had different needs when learning Through this, I learnt how to make resources that suited the tamaiti and their learning Not all tamaiti had good writing skills but had good hands-on skills and vice versa

Classroom management, through this I learned that I needed to build a good relationship with the tamariki

Then as a class, make classroom goals not rules

As the years passed I became confident in those very strong teachings and expanded to PLD in reading and writing then carried on to maths Then followed a sports programme gaining many skills along the way When going into Te Wananga o Awanuiarangi I was well skilled and trained by some amazing teachers from Clendon Park Primary School Then on completion at Te Wananga o Awanuiarangi I was able to fill my kete of Knowledge with real life skills of the land and sea and community

These skills I carry with me through teaching, up and coming adult students in my Lecturing position with Te Wananga o Raukawa
