To Whom It May Concern

As Liaison Teacher for Te Kura  The Correspondence School in the Far North – I have worked closely with Spike for the last three years.  Spike is currently working towards Level 3 - which he is close to achieving. .

Spike has participated in and excelled in the practical … and the theory …for the following courses – as both a teina, tuakana and leader / tutor.

· Fencing, Chainsaws, Possums, Ag Chemicals, Motor Bikes, LUVs, Quads, Gun Licence theory, Animal Husbandry.

Some of these activities were challenging for less capable students – Spike’s gentle, patient, logical leadership style gave others the courage and willingness to attempt and achieve and ultimately to trust and learn skills. He is a sensitive and light-hearted Leader – his positive attitude is a real asset to those around him - especially to those who are less confident. However, he is prepared to extend the confident with sequenced options and challenges.

I have observed Spike in various situations; including the above listed ‘live in’ events .Spike has proved himself to be physically outstanding, he is an intelligent active listener with well-developed ‘People Skills’. He is a good humoured, inclusive, participant and an excellent Teacher – who shows initiative and quickly does ‘what needs doing’ – without being asked.  He is compassionate, supportive and non-judgemental with a gentle but strong ahua.

Spike is well liked and respected by his peers, his fellow students follow his lead and are quickly caught up by his “Let’s get this done’ attitude.

Spike is capable, responsible, reliable and mature in his interactions with all ages and social groups. He exemplifies the strong values of his family and quietly retains his personal standards without imposing them on others..

Spike has given time to volunteer and set up the events.

I have observed him in an emergency situation – he followed procedure and contributed to the positive outcome that ensued.

Spike handles property and expensive equipment carefully following checking and maintenance of potentially dangerous gear – such as chainsaws and weed eaters.

Spike enriches and enhances any gathering . He is loyal and fun. I would not hesitate to recommend him to any employer or organisation. I would congratulate and organisation or employer lucky enough to engage him.

Yours faithfully
