• I was part of Professor Douglas's research group within the department of surgery at the University of Auckland
• I was responsible for starting and managing a longitudinal study observing the microbiome in cystic fibrosis patients
• This involved patient recruitment, sample coordination and collection, data collection of laboratory results and administration of patient information, coordination of ongoing sample collections and acute exacerbation episodes
• Collecting nasal and lung samples for culture and molecular analysis

• There were 4 surgeons within our practice
• My primary responsibility was to manage one of the plastic surgeon's practices, however I cared for all of the surgeons patients post operatively
• My duties included:
• - scheduling clinics
• - assisting during the outpatient clinics, including clinical photography, punch biopsies and chaperoning and general management of running a clinic to time
• - providing preoperative surgical care planning, including organising admission paperwork for surgery, equipment required for surgery, estimates for insurance and privately paid surgery

• I then left this post for a month to travel round Australia and returned back to it after my travels prior to immigrating to New Zealand

• As a Band 6 (senior nurse) Specialist Bowel Cancer Screening Practitioner, I worked collaboratively with the National Bowel Cancer Screening Hub, co-ordinating and providing care to individuals that were identified by the screening programme with a positive faecal occult blood test kit (FOBt) and whom were invited to take part in 'bowel scope' screening
• I provided advice, support and information for those individuals and was responsible for managing my own patient case load, consisting of individuals who were attending clinics, colonoscopy and bowel scope
• I used specialist and advanced communication skills to provide information to individuals about the screening
• Once an individual's FOBt had been screened at the national hub, if a positive result was obtained the individual would proceed to the specialist screening practitioner clinic to discuss the positive result
• I co-ordinated and delivered my own outpatient clinics providing information about the FOBt and why a positive result may have been obtained, discussing the anatomy and physiology of the large bowel and providing information to individuals about polyps in the large bowel
• I provided information regarding the next stage of the screening process; a colonoscopy
• I discussed with the individual what this process involved

• 28 bedded Critical Care Department, providing care to level 3, 2 and 1 patients with various clinical conditions such as:

• Hepatobiliary surgery

• Vascular surgery
• Facial maxillary surgery

• 30 bedded urology and colorectal surgical ward, carrying out ward nurse duties caring for pre and post operative patients
