I am 21 from Picton New Zealand with a strong background in vessel management/operating and extensive engineering knowledge. I have grown up farming giving me the drive and skills to upskill and work in tough environments and stressful situations. I have worked hard through an engineering apprenticeship and progressing through my marine engineering tickets also. im dedicated to my career and others working with me. I work great alone or in a team environment showing great leadership skills. I feel my skills, experience and motivation would fit this role exceeding your expectations. Working in Antarctica would a highlight of a career working in challenging conditions and a beautiful environment.
During my time with Port Marlborough I have completed a 4 year engineering apprenticeship where I have gained the title of a general/mechanical engineering tradesperson. Throughout my experience i have gained skills including but not limited to team leadership, project management, problem solving in stressful situations, and working efficiently. I also took on the responsibility of operating work vessels in our fleet at an early stage on my career with the port skippering under the the maritime New Zealand part 35 act. This bought me back into a part of my working career im very passionate about. as my experience grew I started to take on training other masters, inducting crew and passengers and overseeing and taking out maintenance on our fleet, while also covering paperwork such as standard operating procedures and maritime law and vessel survey requirements. This has bought me into an extension on to my role as an engineer as fleet manager. Throughout this time I have been constantly eager to upskill Currently working through my mech 6 and mech 5 tickets as being a mechanical engineer by trade gives me the opportunity to diverse my qualifications. I am also enrolled at SIS Consulting at the moment going through the process of obtaining my Skippers Restricted Limits with an endorsement of up to 19 Passengers by the end of February 2026.
After School I took an opportunity working for a local diver fishing for Paua, Kina, and Butterfish in the outer Marlborough Sounds and Cookstrait. I started as deckhand and quickly progressed to operation the 8 meter vessel in rough and dangerous areas and conditions fulltime. This gave me relevant skills such as operating and navigating a vessel safely in dangerous waters, quick problem solving and keeping crew safe. I enjoyed the work, being out in remote areas around beautiful wildlife and scenery much like the job you are offering. I left after 4 months due to the lack of opportunity to upskill unfortunately.
