Summary

Nursing to me is about providing care that is compassionate, empathetic and holistic whilst maintaining and building hope, autonomy and independence for healthcare consumers and their whanau. My personal values of trust, respect and kindness have guided me through my four years in nursing and have ensured that I provide care that fulfils each of my patients specific needs. My future goals are to continually grow and develop as a professional health practitioner. I continue to look for new opportunities to develop and expand my knowledge. Working with patients and their families and enabling independence and informed decision making has always been a passion and goal of mine.

Work History

Registered Nurse

Hospice Waikato
03.2022 - Current
  • My current position in the Inpatient unit at hospice Waikato has been a time of development and learning. Working in palliative care has not only developed my clinical nursing skills but also has developed my skills in psychosocial and holistic nursing care. Having difficult conversations, active listening and holistic nursing have been just a few skills I have developed significant from working at hospice. My passion for whanau-based care and holistic care has been fostered during my work here.
  • I am a champion in Advanced care planning and am able to have difficult conversations with patients and their whanau. Thus ensuring that we as health care providers allow patients to make informed decisions and are aware of what our patients need and want from our services

Registered Nurse

Waikato DHB
10.2021 - 03.2022
  • My job in the Waikato Neonatal Intensive care unit has been a time of learning and developing many skills
  • Working in such a specialised area has allowed me to develop and gain skills that are invaluable. These include a more in-depth knowledge of neonatal health, excellent communication, being a team player skill and a strong focus on whanau centred care. Working in NICU has allowed me to foster my passion for whanau centred care, placing a strong emphasis on education, empowerment and informed decision making. I have further developed my communication and time management skills, due to the high acuity work environment of NICU.

Registered Nurse

Waikato DHB
02.2020 - 10.2022
  • Working as NETP at Waikato DHB on M3 has allowed my practice and skills to further develop. This work opportunity has allowed my skills and critical thinking to develop from a student to Nurse to a New Graduate Registered Nurse. This NETP position has allowed my interprofessional skills such as communication and advocacy to develop to ensure I am delivering the best care possible to my patients. Developing effective communication skills has allowed myself to advocate for my patient’s health. I can communicate with members of the health care team concerns I have or my patient or their whanau has about their health in a way that is professional and effective. This has allowed myself to ensure my patients safety is everyone’s top priority and ensure they are at the centre of their own healthcare
