“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” — W.B. Yeats
As an aspiring teacher, I do not view my role as that of a dispenser of knowledge, but rather as a facilitator of learning. I am not Google; I do not aim to provide all the answers. Instead, I strive to offer sparks, hints, probing questions, and insights, that ignite curiosity and encourage students to think critically and learn with purpose. I use strategies like the gradual release model to build learner confidence and autonomy, while intentionally designing inclusive, culturally responsive lessons that reflect students’ identities and needs. I believe meaningful learning happens in safe, respectful spaces where students feel seen, heard, and empowered. As a lifelong learner, I aim to model calm consistency, build trust through patience and humility, and co-construct a classroom culture where curiosity, risk-taking, and perseverance thrive, lighting a fire students can carry with them beyond the classroom.
