Nurse Preceptor (M7-IP placement)

To whom it my concern

I am writing on behalf of Nova Fisher, a brilliant new graduate nurse. I have gotten to know Nova, over 10 weeks. During her IP placement. as her clinical preceptor at Waikato Hospital. I have had the pleasure of watching her develop into a very competent and outstanding nurse, during this time. She has made a positive impact on our nursing department, her fellow preceptees, and patients she has cared for as a nurse.

Firstly, as a senior nurse and preceptor for many years. I can say that Nova was one of the best all around nursing students that I have had the pleasure of precepting. Her bedside manner filled her patients with ease and she was always thorough in their care. Clinically, Nova was always well-prepared, calm, and organised while nursing her patients. In addition, she demonstrated competence, thorough nursing skills and the ability to apply the nursing process she had learnt over her educational period.

In her surgical rotation with us, I was quite impressed by Nova. Her character and intelligence were distinguishable above the rest of the students. In fact, it was hard to differentiate between the new graduate nurses and Nova as a student nurse. The preceptors, she had had on the few days I wasn't there, took me aside to give glowing feedback on the professionalism she demonstrated. They were more than comfortable allowing her greater freedom in taking care of their patients while still under their guidance due to her competency.

In addition to being an outstanding student nurse, Nova also demonstrated the ability to ask for help when in doubt. As a health professional the ability to ask for help and know where to look up policies and procedures. Is a vital skill in the maintenance of providing excellent and safe care to the public.

Due to her willingness to learn and put that knowledge into action, compassion, general pleasant disposition, Nova has made me proud to be her preceptor. I believe without a doubt that she will make a positive impact on wherever she ends up working. I would be more than happy to answer any questions, feel free to reach out.

Sincerely,

Vinal Deo
