Summary

I am a hardworking graduate university student. I received my Bachelor of Arts, double majoring in Psychology and Criminology, from Victoria University of Wellington in May 2024. I am nearing the end of my Graduate Diploma in primary teaching from the University of Waikato and am expected to complete this in December 2024. I bring forth both a motivated attitude, passion for teaching and learning, and a variety of skills. I have been a resourceful after-school care helper with experience in providing quality care to children of all primary and intermediate ages. Throughout this past year at Diocesan School for Girls, I have become well-versed in creating age-appropriate lessons and activities to encourage physical, emotional and social development. I thoroughly enjoy developing positive relationships with children and families and aim to be the best educator possible. I am a participant and recipient of the APTEC and University of Waikato School-Based Teacher Training Programme 2024.

Testimonials

  • "You were well organised and it was obvious that you knew your content well and the routine. Some nice modelling for the students of the letter, using a variety of ways to teach the sound and letter formation. It was great how you constantly monitored your learners by quickly conferencing with them to ensure they were on track. I like how you demonstrated a letter and then asked to the student to have a go which they did happily. You were prompting the whole way through this lesson, revisiting prior learning and then continuing to reinforce it... Your dictated sentence instructions were clear and when you moved to work with learners, you got down onto their level." (Nikki Woodland-Douglas, Evaluative Lecturer). June, 2024.
  • Olivia has shown a strong ability to form relationships with students in the classroom. The girls enjoy having her in the classroom and express excitement to see Olivia and work in a group with her. Olivia has a calm manner during class which is then reflected by the students. This calmness brings quiet to the classroom and she uses this to gain attention and manage the class behaviour. Olivia has become part of the staff and has the confidence to participate in group discussions during meetings and during more relaxed moments during staff breaks. She takes time to ask other staff members questions to improve her teaching and gain ideas from others. She has a great sense of reflection after lessons and can clearly pick up when something hasn't gone as she had hoped. Olivia clearly has high expectations of herself and has strived to meet these each day of her 5 week block. She has worked on improving her pace to keep a 'perky pace' with lessons and give clear concise instructions to ensure students know what they need to complete a task. Olivia has shown she has exceeded the expectations in many areas for a student halfway through their programme. (Ella Cripps, Mentor Teacher). July 5, 2024.
