Talofa lava, o la'u igoa o Pati Junior Leiataua I am a follower of Christ, Samoan born Professional Dancer from Auckland now residing in Whanganui.
One thing that I learnt from the teaching experience that I've had is, we are all students of learning, some people take longer than others but eventually they get there. I love learning new things and evolving my understanding. I believe that teaching is a great foundation for understanding new perspectives on everyone's different learning abilities.
Although I may not have many teaching experience, I know that the jobs that I get offered are the stepping stones to a path that leads to success, and being efficient and patient in that process allows for me to make easier decisions and solve the problems that arise. I believe that my faith is the main source of my motivation and progression, allowing it to guide my work to emerge new skills and understanding in any role.
This job requires a certain amount of attention, as making a quantity of orders consistent and efficient can be quite stressful and demanding when in a rush. Keeping cool, calm and collected is essential in a high-stress environment as it allows for a consistent flow throughout service while utilising clear communication to reduce mistakes. My faith is a big part of who I am and it has given me the ability to learn, understand and build new relationships with the customers that I serve. Stepping into a role that is lower than my previous job as a manager has allowed me to establish a humble perspective, supporting my colleagues by utilising the leadership skills that I obtained from my previous role.
I began my employment at Goode Brothers as a waiter/bartender . After a few months I was promoted to Duty Manager, challenging me to develop new leadership skills while learning to manage my new responsibilities. These new responsibilities including but were not limited to:
Managing staff & customer satisfaction was a skill that I used frequently while working as a duty manager, learning to accommodate their needs without compromising the policies of the company. During my time there I was given the chance to develop new ideas on how to provide quality service, which meant coming up with different ideas around how to gain new customers and build a reputation for the restaurant. I was involved in majority of such ideas and in turn helped the company grow in efficient work flow and relationships.
Coming into this job I had no experience working in a bar or restaurant. This role gave me the confidence to grow as an individual and as a team member, as it required me to make a high quantity of alcoholic beverages while also providing quality service. It also grew my enjoyment of knowing different types of people, both customers and colleagues. Tony's was my introduction to the world of hospitality and ignited my passion to serve others in a professional industry.
