Work History

Care Giver /Recreational Therapist

Summerset Retirement Village
01.2021 - 02.2023
  • As a Caregiver I attended to our residents needs. This included all their daily needs. Showering / bed baths, brushing teeth, dressing, brushing hair, Feeding breakfast, lunch and dinner. Whilst interacting with them.
  • I would do all 3 shifts. Morning, Afternoon and Nights.
  • In all 3 of these shifts I was required to meet all of my wing of residents with their needs. Also whilst helping my colleagues with their wings.
  • I was in charge of managing my residents with their medical schedules.
  • I was originally a Caregiver. Then when the Covid Pandemic arrived our Diversional Therapist was unable to have the injections. I was approached by my manager who asked myself to take on the role of the recreational therapist. I was doing the training for the Diversional Therapist. Because of Covid I still did my role as a Caregiver as well as we were understaffed.
  • My colleagues and I were needed to do double shifts.
  • As a Caregiver I was asked to deal only with a resident who had mental health issues. So needed one on one care.
  • I was often asked to give medication to our residents when the RN's were not able to have our residents take their medication. I have a calming nature. So they would take the medication from myself.
  • One of our residents was a hoarder with mental health issues. No one was allowed to touch her possessions, but I managed to gain her confidence and removed 6 bags of rubbish.
  • As a Recreational Therapist I was in charge of developing individual and group activities for our residents. These included group activities in the main lounge, individual activities in separate areas. I held Resident and Family meetings. Providing the minutes for the Families that could not atten via e-mail. I was also in charge of bringing in entertainment for our residents. I spent time outside of the care home with our residents.
  • I was in charge of purchasing and providing themed activities for our residents, for example Matariki, my son and I made a fabric version of the stars and my son did the Karakia before their lunch. Easter, Christmas, Happy Hour and Birthdays are a few of the themes I was in charge of.
  • I have a Maltese Shih Tzu Puppy. So I would bring Sammy in for pet therapy. He had been going since he was 6mths old so would roam the different wings on his own.
  • I was also asked to help in the laundry when we were understaffed due to Covid.
  • If our residents were going to pass I would stay overtime with the family members.

Volunteer Carer

Audrey Tracey
11.2020 - 10.2022
  • I was asked to help with a friends Grandmother who lived down the road from our house.
  • I would go weekly and clean her house.
  • I was a companion for Audrey.
  • Sammy (my puppy) would come with myself and Audrey enjoyed spending time with him.
  • I would provide 3 homemade dinner meals a week for Audrey.
