Radiation Therapist

Waikato Regional Cancer Centre, Waikato Hospital
Hamilton, New Zealand
07.2020 - 04.2022
  • My role at Waikato Regional Cancer Centre:
  • Administered radiation therapy treatments to patients via Varian Truebeam and iX linear accelerators, ensuring adherence to prescribed protocols.
  • Collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized treatment plans for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Educated patients and families about treatment processes and side effects, fostering understanding and compliance.
  • Adhered to quality assurance measures to maintain equipment functionality and safety standards in the treatment environment.
  • Contributed to a supportive work environment by fostering open communication among colleagues, sharing knowledge, and providing guidance when needed.
  • Coordinated closely with medical physicists regarding dosimetry calculations, ensuring appropriate dose distributions for each individual patient's needs.
  • Reduced wait times for radiation therapy appointments through efficient scheduling and time management skills e.g grouping certain cohorts of patients together to reduce the amount of time spent changing equipment.

Radiation Therapist

Canberra Region Cancer Centre
Canberra, Australia
10.2018 - 03.2020
  • In my position at the Canberra Hospital I had vast treatment and pre-treatment experience. I begun with a treatment rotation working on Varian linear accelerators (Clinac and Truebeam) and Topex superficial radiation therapy unit, I treated all manner of techniques. I then progressed to an extended CT/Simulation rotation in which I worked dynamically not only on simulation procedures using a Toshiba CT scanner including 4DCT and SABR scans.
  • In this centre this also includes obtaining and fusing imaging such as MRI, PET, CT and completing all contours required for doctor voluming. I was in dosimetry more recently where I was for 4 months. I was working on 3DCRT, IMRT and VMAT cases. I utilised both Pinnacle and Eclipse treatment planning systems and am very familiar with them. I can plan a range of sites and techniques including simple palliative 3D plans, IMRT step and shoot breasts, and VMAT pelvis, brain and head and neck sites.

Radiation Therapist

Radiation Oncology Centres (ROC) – now known as Icon Cancer Centre
Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia
03.2018 - 09.2018
  • During my tenure at ROC Toowoomba I was working in a fully Varian integrated system with Varian ix linear accelerators, Varian Halcyon linear accelerator, Aria patient management system, and Eclipse treatment planning system. I had vast experience at this centre including a treatment rotation treating a wide range of techniques. I then moved onto a CT/planning rotation developing my pre-treatment skills with daily simulation sessions and both 3DCRT and VMAT planning for a variety of sites.

Radiation Therapist

Auckland City Hospital
Auckland, New Zealand
01.2017 - 12.2017
  • My new graduate role at Auckland City Hospital was Varian based with Varian ix linear accelerators, Siemens CT scanners, Aria patient management system, and Pinnacle treatment planning system. In Auckland I developed a strong treatment background with over 8 months of treatment experience with extensive breast and pelvis technique skills, as well as in head and neck and hypofractionated lung techniques. I also had a rotation to pretreatment, where I extended my skills further with palliative and 3D-CRT planning, and data entry, with a focus on a rapid pre-treatment model for radiation emergency patients.
