After a 24-week internship at Radio New Zealand, I was offered three roles, which I chose to undertake simultaneously to gain as much experience as possible.
Digital Journalist: I write, edit, produce, and publish breaking news, features, analysis, columns, and other digital content. I also facilitate the flow of content from other parts of the organisation to the homepage, and I edit the homepage and other sections as needed. I also use analytical tools to monitor audience engagement.
Journalist: I write, cut, edit, and produce live radio, radio packages, bulletins, video, and social media content. My experience spans breaking news, fieldwork, industry reports, government announcements, and coverage of significant events. I also build strong relationships with contacts, leading to exclusive interviews, scoops, and original stories.
Producer: I contribute to the production of the Morning Report and Midday Report programmes by identifying stories, arranging talent, writing background notes and introductions, and pinpointing informative and relevant angles.
