The reason why I want to teach is simple: I am passionate about helping young people.
This passion extends beyond helping them achieve high grades. Students should feel confident, safe, and supported in their classrooms. Building positive relationships with students is just as important as teaching content. The difficulty is in finding the thin line that separates friendliness and professionalism. No matter how personable, I am still their teacher, not their friend.
Along with being a source of positivity for students, I also strive to impart on them a shared passion for the English and History subjects. These topics offer a variety of relevant (and in many ways, necessary) skills for use outside of school such as comprehending and analysing texts, understanding historical perspectives, and several more. But I also aim to inspire a keen interest in students for these subjects, allowing them to see the potential for creative expression, meaning-making, and a wider personal understanding.
