Teachingphilosophy

I believe that every child is different and therefore every child learns at their own pace. I have a holistic approach to teaching, addressing the whole person, including their physical, mental, and emotional health, while taking social factors into consideration. As a teacher, I strive to have positive relationships with each of my learners, their whanau and the community. I cater to the diverse needs of my learners and respect their values and beliefs, different cultures, languages, and heritages and endeavor to model respect, appreciation and honesty and in return expect the same from my learners. With diversity a reality in today's classrooms, creating a non-threatening and safe environment is a necessity to make each learner feel valued and comfortable to contribute in my classroom. As a teacher I will ensure that my classroom is inclusive of each student and where differences are celebrated. I will provide a safe learning environment where my student's curiosity is nurtured to co-construct knowledge and enable high achieving, self-regulating, lifelong learners. I believe that children learn best when they have a say in their learning. I am to create a learning environment where my learners are engaged with authentic and personalized lessons. As a teacher, I believe that my classroom culture should be inclusive where every student is celebrated for who they are. A place where we collaborate and support each other. A place where we row our waka together to be able to make a difference in the world we live in today.
