  • Company Overview: The farm was a 1200-acre dairy farm milking 500 cows and along with a breeding programme that produced 500 calves per year.
  • Began in the role as a farm assistant and after 6 months was promoted to Farm Manager.
  • In addition to milking 500 cows also purchased a herd of 250 cows and leased these to the farm owner and separately was self-employed rearing 500 calves per annum (split calving Autumn and Spring).

  • Responsible for running the farm including herd management, animal husbandry, milking shed operation, pasture management, feed management, general farm maintenance, calving and production of performance reports and other information.

  • Managed farm infrastructure projects, installed new feed-pad to house 800 cows, developed the breeding programme using seeder's and sex semen, implemented improved feeding systems, re-raced the property and extended the milking shed.

Responsibilities and Achievements

As a stay-at-home mom and co-founder of a successful construction business, I have successfully balanced the demands of raising three children, including twins, while helping to build a small, family-run business from the ground up. This experience has sharpened my abilities in time management, client communication, scheduling, and operational coordination, alongside family life I previously owned and operated an 86-hectare property dedicated to raising calves, leased a 100-hectare property, and ran 180 to 250 animals depending on the time of year, being responsible for all aspects of running the calf-raising business, which purchased, reared, and sold 700 calves per annum. I oversaw the operation of the 250-hectare dry stock block, which ran 250 cattle, managed farm administration including the employment of contractors and staff, farm budgets, cost management, supplies, herd recording, and off-farm lease properties for young stock. I managed and was involved in all farm maintenance and animal husbandry tasks including fertilizing, fencing, water troughs, and stock rotation, operated trucks, diggers, and a 200 HP tractor, managed the relationship with suppliers, contractors, veterinarians, and a range of other stakeholders, assisted with the AB Insemination school annually with their student education requirements, led the subdivision and consenting process to develop 9 hectares of land and to build a residential property on it, project managed the building of a 3-bedroom home, liaised with an architect, builders, council, landscapers, and a range of other contractors and suppliers to construct the home on time and on budget, managed the interior design of the dwelling, and sold the property when it was completed. I managed the project and coordinated suppliers including the architect, builders, landscapers, and contractors for the repurposing of a woolshed to construct a 3-bedroom home, oversaw costs and finances to ensure the builds came in on budget, achieved a net profit of $467k+ per annum, lifted the milk solids production from 90k MS from 230 cows to 201k MS from 500 cows, achieved high survival rates for 400+ calves born each year and successfully reared them, successfully reared an additional 500 calves per annum, and grew stock under management from 230 to 500. I maintained consistently strong results and growth in the business over six years, and significantly improved feeding systems, breeding results, pasture quality, and farm infrastructure
