To do this my role entails:

  • Assessment skills: Identifying patients current health status by further exploring red flags and obtaining quantifiable data by utilsiing appropriate assessments ie Proximal nocturnal dyspnea will lead to ordering a BNP, completing an ECG, identifying Mets / Heavy snoring affecting daytime sleepiness will lead to assessing OSA utilsing STOPBANG (Structural likelihood) and then the Epworth score (Functional affect)
  • Completing an ECG and interpreting the data When appropriate involve the wider health professional team for guidance
  • Reviewing historical blood baseline data, this can identify additional bloods tests required to provide an updated analysis Upon sign off the data will be interpreted to determine further investigations
  • Observational data & identifying trends may lead to referrals requesting further involvement to potentially optimism health ie Uncontrolled diabetes/hypertension
  • Communication: Effectively communicating with patients through education and implementing strategies to improve their health prior to elective surgery
