Summary

As a Christchurch Girls' High School prefect, a family nanny, and a swim instructor, I've learned important life skills such as problem-solving, leadership, and communication. Not only with these roles I've had, but since February 2024, I have been learning to fly, which has also taught me other skills and has shown me a slice of the aviation world. With my experience, I'm motivated and efficient at task completion.

Work History

Family Nanny

Lauren Harrison
Fendalton, Christchurch
04.2025 - Current
  • Being a family nanny for three girls has taught me valuable leadership skills by requiring me to take initiative, manage daily routines, and make decisions in real time.
  • It has also given me a strong sense of responsibility, as I’ve been trusted with the care, safety, and emotional well-being of children, as I'm seen as a role model and support system in their lives.
  • Not only this, but this job, as well as being a swim instructor, has increased my situational awareness. I always need to be on alert, as they are my responsibility.

Swim Instructor

Aquagym
Linwood , Christchurch
11.2023 - Current
  • As a swim instructor, I have taught basic survival skills to children 3 years old and up, all the way to perfecting different types of strokes on older kids. I encourage swimmers to progress by providing positive feedback on their performance, and I instruct them on the importance of water safety. Over the past year, I have had to show leadership and handle situations that are unfamiliar to me, especially with the responsibility of seven kids per class. Not only have I had to use leadership, but developing individualized swim plans for students with various learning levels has taught me life skills, especially communication and adaptability.

Affiliations

  • As a Christchurch Girls' High School prefect, it was my job to organise the take on the role of the 40-hour challenge for World Vision. Months of planning and multiple meetings later, our Kura raised the most money it had in over 10 years, raising over $3700. This was a huge challenge to take on, but it was very rewarding and highlighted the importance of thinking ahead and time management.
  • At 16 years old, I flew solo in a PA-28-161. This took 10 hours of flight training, and was a very proud achievement
