Work History

Case Manager

Work and Income
Hastings, Hawkes Bay
09.2020 - Current
  • Currently, I am working at Work and Income Hastings. I was a youth-focused case manager for 3 years, then went on maternity leave for 7 months. When I returned from maternal leave, I worked in our income team for 3 months. Then, I moved back into our employment team as a case manager for 5 months. Now, I am a facilitator/campaigner for our employment team at the Hastings branch.
  • Being at Work and Income has given me so many skills such as: time management, how to deal with conflict, people skills, attention to detail, how to guide people not tell them what to do and so much more.
  • I have also gained/expanded lots of personal values such as: showing and having empathy, being an active listener, to be understanding, to have patience and to be positive.

Student Teacher

EIT
Taradale, Hastings
02.2019 - 11.2019
  • I was a student at EIT for the year 2019. During this time, I did part-time work as a student teacher. Therefore, every Friday, I would assist Rebecca Clarke, who was a business teacher for the Trades Academy at EIT, to help guide/mentor secondary students into creating their own businesses.
  • Encouraged positive relationships between students by promoting collaboration within groups.
  • Evaluated student work, provided feedback, and tracked their progress over time.

Student Representative

EIT
Taradale, Hastings
02.2019 - 11.2019
  • I was hired by EIT to be a student representative. Therefore, my duties would consist of speaking in front of large assemblies of students to encourage them to attend EIT.
  • Other duties included being interviewed for media platforms and being photographed for EIT catalogs.

Te Reo Maori Teacher

Hastings Intermediate
Akina, Hastings
04.2019 - 10.2019
  • I was an acting Te Reo Māori Teacher at Hastings Intermediate School for year 7 and 8 students. At this time, the Te Reo Māori teacher was very sick, and the school knew that I was fluent in Te Reo Māori. Therefore, I was asked to teach.
  • Throughout my time working at the intermediate, I learned so much about how people are different due to their cultures, backgrounds, etc. And how these different aspects affect their ways of learning. An example would be that my Māori students would engage more in learning by having open discussion however my Indian students would engage more by isolating themselves with the material that was given to them. My goal was to help engage all of the children in learning Te Reo Māori by understanding how they individually retained information.
