My role as a consultant with a new and growing therapy service in Dubai, supported children, families and teachers with the provision of occupational therapy services . My caseload included children with sensory processing challenges, dyslexia, dyspraxia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and autism spectrum disorders. Intervention processes included initial consultations with parents and teachers, assessment with the child, provision of individual treatment programs, three monthly reviews, report writing and regular teacher, parent feedback. I spent a year in Moscow teaching English as a foreign language to both children and adults. Because of the language barrier resourcefulness was key to meet the needs of the classes. Task based learning whereby students learnt through completing tasks with. meaningful outcome. Challenges were managing classes with mixed abilities, cultural barriers.
Working in community based position involved with the integration of clients into the community.
My role included the initial evaluation of the patients physical abilities, limitations and impact on lifestyle. Evaluating muscle strength, motor function, sensation, range of motion and cognitive skills. Personalized goals were set up in collaboration with the patient. Focus was on ADL, transfers, wheelchair prescription and mobility. In addition splinting for those patients with high level lesions. Community integration played a big role in this position.
My case load included adults with both acute and chronic mental health conditions and was a demanding position offering front line care and support.
