KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare for admission (passing of the ventilators and setting the ventilator tubing, prepare pre-medications for intubation, prepare infusion pumps, sedation, and inotropes, place oxygen tubing, suction machine, and tray, make admission bed or radiant warmers and prepare patient admission paper works)
- Nurse ventilated patients (prn oral, nasal, and ETT suctioning, assisted with endotracheal tube intubation, prepared and monitor patients on inotropes, changed ventilator modes and settings accordingly, assisted with ETT Extubation of patients, monitored patient's vital signs and neuro-obs hourly, prepare to administer, wean patients of sedations and elimination 4hourly) and nursing non ventilated patients.
- Nurse patients with chest drains (changing the dressing, emptying chest drain and monitoring the content, connect the chest drain bottles back, have knowledge and technique as to how to turn patient with chest drain, and assist surgeons with chest drain insertion)
- Nursing intubated burns patients and doing peritoneal dialysis as per protocol
- Taking care of tracheostomy patients (prn suctioning, changing tracheostomy ties and dressing, monitor infection)
- Prepare equipment for procedures such as long line insertion, intubation, extubation, chest drain insertion
- Nursed COVID-positive patients on AIRVO, CPAP, and ventilator.
- Maintain proper donning and doffing of gowns, full PPEs, proper waste segregation, and disposal, maintained sterility, allocated duties to staff, and ordered drugs and supplies as being the shift team leader
- Following up on patient's blood results, liaising with doctors about their conditions, transfusing blood products and dropping blood sample to Laboratory Department
- Carrying out activities of daily living for patients such as bathing twice daily, feeding (oral and NGT), personal hygiene care, oral care cord care, 2hourly turns, and log rolls for motor vehicle accident patients.
- Nutrition and feeding (Nasogastric feeding/ Total Parental Nutrition/ F-75/ F-100). Preparation of total parental nutrition as per consultant's plan in the unit.
- Perform CPR on very critical patients
- Take patient vital signs and performed a physical examination on them.
- Ensure that essential stock of supplies is ordered and made available all the time. Maintain confidentiality of information related to patients, staff & other Health Service businesses.
- Organized family conferences and gave patient information, emotional support, and reassurance to patients and relatives.
- Promoted and upheld standards according to the highest codes of practice
- Attend calmly to emergencies.
- When needed, plan and carry out patient discharge from the hospital and liaise with community nurses and social workers.
- Taking responsibility for the ward in the absence of senior staff or Sister in Charge Allocated duties to staff on shift and supervise them as being the shift team leader and supervising interns nurses during the shift.
