Hello, I'm Sharon, I was raised in Geraldine and now live on a lifestyle property at Ruapuna near Mayfield with my husband John and our 3 teenage boys.
I currently work for PGGWrightson as a relief shop assistant and enjoy working with many different people as I work between 4 different stores. I enjoy my work, but when I found out about your position it truly interested me.
The Cancer Society has always been a constant in my life every since my beloved father died back in 1980. My mother was one of the original people involved in setting up a Geraldine branch soon after his death. Our family has been involved with the society ever since. You have helped our family (sadly) numerous times since then, with the death of my sister and father-in-law and my mother's cancer scare. I appreciate all that you have done for us and I would love the opportunity to be able to give back.
I have never been a great academic person in my life, but I have learned many great life lessons and I feel my main strength is that I'm a people person with a huge amount of empathy for people going through tough times, but try to do this with a sense of humour and humility when needed.
I'm a community minded person and have given my time freely to many different organisations. The two main ones being part of the Carew Peel Forest Home and School committee for 12 years, 5 of which were as Secretary. I'm currently on the Board of Trustees at Geraldine High School. The BoT role has certainly given me many skills with the most recent being involved in appointing our new Principal. The BoT is also teaching me many aspects of Maori culture. I have participated in cultural awareness workshops. I still have a lot to learn in this area, but have enjoyed learning and I be extremely interested in going further in this journey. I feel I am a life-long learner who is always ready to learn new skills.
I hope that you will consider me for this role as I think I would be a good fit at the Cancer Society and would love to challenge myself in a new role.
