Trials
Acted as junior counsel for a high-profile South Auckland case that was in the news. This was a six-week trial for Attempted Murder at the Auckland High Court. Our client was charged with being Accessory After the Fact to Attempted Murder. Other barristers who appeared for the co-offenders include barrister Murray Gibson, barrister Ian Tucker, barrister Peter Kaye and others.
Acted as junior counsel for attempted sexual violation at the Auckland District Court. We had a successful outcome for our client, who had three young children.
Responsibilities
Have supported in case research by incorporating specialist knowledge to improve case understanding and outcomes. Attended client meetings to prepare brief of evidence and other court documents. Researched and analysed probable case outcomes using legal databases and knowledge of legal precedents.
Assessed evidence to help senior counsel prepare and present cases in court. Interviewed clients and witnesses to corroborate case evidence.
Appeared for opposed bail hearings, sentence indications, sentencing, and other administrative appearances. Conducted background research and preparatory work to present client cases in Court.
Katie Hogan specialises in Proceeds of Crime. Assisted in disclosure review, research, and letters of advice to clients. Under the Criminal Proceeds Act, the Commissioner has the power to compulsorily examine the client. Have attended and supported clients during these compulsory examinations at the North Shore Police Station. These examinations can take hours.
My eleven years of client experience allows me to successfully and confidently conduct one-on-one meetings with clients.
